A study of history, techniques and social consequences
of the Human Genome Project

This Community Initiative sponsored by the Center for the Advancement of Teaching
has been developed to study the history, techniques and social consequences of the Human Genome Project. The
community is comprised of two faculty and two students: Dr. Jay Ciaffa with student Harvey Daniels from Philosopy
and Dr. Marion Carroll with student Shameka Darisaw from Chemistry. The primary goal for faculty will be curriculum
development and the primary goal for students will be the development of research and writing skills.
Listed below are the minutes of our meetings scheduled weekly on Tuesdays
at 9:00 am

Follow along with our progress in the Development Phase as we increase our understanding of the scientific,
ethical and social problems associated with the Human Genome Project. Please send inquiries or suggestions to

January 21st
The group reviewed the proposal and discussed what was expected of each
member during the Development Phase beginning this Spring and Implementation Phase of the project that is to
begin in the Summer, 2003.
January 28th
First order of business was to take two surveys.
